Make a fresh cut: Before placing the tree in its stand, cut about a 1/2 inch off the bottom of the trunk to help it absorb water.
Use a proper stand: Ensure the stand is sturdy and can hold at least a gallon of water.
Water frequently: Check the water level daily, or even twice a day for the first couple of days, as a fresh tree can drink up to a gallon in the first 24 hours.
Use plain water: Preservatives, sugar, or other additives are not necessary; plain water is best
